Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance, Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne.
IF YOU are a fan of musical theatre this is the show for you. Eastbourne Theatres in-house production of the popular magical night at the Musicals has returned to the Devonshire Park Theatre where it plays until Saturday August 25.
Featuring a West End cast of three men and three women they cover everything from wartime musicals and Rogers and Hammerstein to Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire, Judy Garland and songs from Les Miserables and Miss Saigon to the latest West End shows.
The first half is pure nostalgia, the second half features Hairspray, Grease, Mamma Mia, Barnum and Jesus Christ Superstar which is about to embark on an Arena Tour
Chris Jordan’s direction has produced a slick show which switches from American to British musicals and back again without a pause and all six singers have great voices. Rebecca Lisewski is the Queen of Comedy, and the Singing in the Rain sequence with the sound effects is excellent.
The highlight of the show has to be the finale when the cast recreate the current West End shows in under four minutes.
Even if you have seen this show before every time it returns to Eastbourne you discover something new so don’t miss it.
