Shappi Khorsandi is hoping to be happy in Shoreham when she brings her Because I’m Shappi tour to the Ropetackle (Friday, April 24, 8pm).

Ropetackle spokesman Mark Phillips said “Having established herself as one of the UK’s finest comedians, Shappi Khorsandi is the star of Live At The Apollo, QI, Mock The Week and more.

“Reflecting on the good things in life, Shappi will be celebrating the haphazard, zigzag journey that has led her towards her dreams, introducing friends, family and total strangers who have helped her on her personal Yellow Brick Road.

“Effortlessly funny Shappi handles every subject with a razor-sharp wit, softened only by her deliciously-mischievous delivery and endless charm. She joins a long list of top-class comedians to have graced the Ropetackle stage.”

Shappi established herself in 2006 with her sell-out Edinburgh show Asylum Speaker.

This show led to the publication of her childhood memoirs, A Beginner’s Guide To Acting English.

In typical-Shappi style, this show told the story of how her family were forced to flee Iran and gain asylum in the UK. Her father’s popularity as a satirist attacking the regime has ensured they cannot return to Iran.

As Shappi said: “Obviously there’s free speech in Iran, but little freedom after you’ve spoken.”

Arrive from 6pm and enjoy pre-show food from the Ropetackle Café. Box office: 01273 464440 or ropetacklecentre.co.uk.
