Sussex Chorus, one of the county’s foremost choirs, will be performing their opening concert of this coming season on Saturday, November 8.
The event will take place at All Saints Church, The Drive, Hove (7.30pm), and will be conducted by Alan Vincent, Musical Director of Sussex Chorus.
The programme includes Toward the Unknown Region by Vaughan Williams and Bruckner’s Mass in E minor.
In addition a wind octet from Kent Sinfonia will perform Mozart’s Serenade in C Minor.
Vaughan Williams wrote his first major choral piece, Towards the Unknown Region, in 1906 to a setting of a poem by the American poet Walt Whitman.
It was first performed at the Leeds Festival in 1907 with Vaughan Williams as the conductor.
Bruckner’s Mass in E Minor, composed when Bruckner was organist at Linz cathedral, was first published in full in 1896, thirty years after he began the composition and three years before its first concert performance.
Tickets are £15 (concessions £12, students and children under 16 £5) and they are available from the Sussex Chorus website and Ticket Manager on 01444 412579, The Dome Box Office on 01273 709709 and www. We Got Tickets.com.
