World-class artists for latest coffee concerts

Brighton Dome welcomes back its Coffee Concerts series to Brighton Dome Corn Exchange this autumn - a series featuring world-class chamber music.

Bringing a national and international mix of emerging talent, established artists, and award-winning musicians to the south coast, the intimate nature of these recitals – often performed in the round offer audiences a sociable and enriching experience, the organisers promise.

The season begins with BBC Radio 3’s New Generation Artists, Poland’s Apollon Musagète Quartet (Oct 13) - one of the most dynamic, charismatic and creative ensembles on the international music scene.

After winning international chamber music competitions in Vienna and Florence, the ensemble has now risen to prominence within the European musical world including first prize, and almost all the special prizes, at the 57th ARD International Music Competition.

November sees baroque violinist Rachel Podger (Nov 10) offer a selection of virtuosic solo repertoire from one of the richest eras of music.

She is currently guest leader of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and a professor at the Welsh Royal College, the Royal Academy, the Guildhall and Copenhagen’s Royal Danish Academy.

Rachel Podger will also run a public master class on November 9 in association with the Brighton Early Music Festival.

In December, the series welcomes back the Heath Quartet (Dec 15) to with a programme including Tippett String Quartet No.4 and Beethoven’s String Quartet No.8 in E minor Op.59 No.2.

The concerts will continue into spring 2014 with soloists from the Royal College of Music in January, Trio Isimisz in February, and Czech Republic’s highly-regarded Zemlinsky Quartet, who will close the series in March.

Andrew Comben, chief executive of Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival said: “It is wonderful to see our audience for chamber music growing year after year and these concerts grow in popularity.

For me, our Sunday morning coffee concerts are the perfect mix of magnificent artists performing wonderful repertoire in a beautiful, historic and welcoming space.

“I hope this year’s varied programme inspires even more music lovers to join us.”
