South Broadwater Residents' Association is objecting to licences for Mace, at 75-77 Victoria Road, and Tesco Express, on the site of the former Warners premises at the bottom of South Farm Road.

Mace, wants to provide "late-night refreshment".

Mace is for a licence to operate 7am to 11pm, Monday to Saturday, and 8am to 8pm on Sundays.

Residents' association spokesman Tim Nicholls, of North-court Road, wrote to the licensing committee about Mace: "There is concern about yet another premises proposing to sell alcohol for consumption off the premises, smack in the middle of various take-aways, as well as several other off-licences in the immediate area."

Mr Nicholls said: "This is obviously linked to the potential for an increase in crime and disorder and public nuisance in the form of noise in the evening.

"In turn, this is bound to put a further strain on police resources."

Referring to the Tesco Express, Mr Nicholls said: "Some of the businesses in South Farm Road are going to suffer because of this new Tesco."
He also asked where the delivery lorries were going to park just south of the railway crossing.

Tesco's request for a licence, to apply from 8am to midnight daily, will be heard at Worthing Town Hall on August 7 at 10am.
