BLIZZARDS caused a white-out in East Sussex on Sunday, making it the heaviest hit county in the South East.
Heavy snow started to fall at about 8am and continued for most of the day followed by a sharp, overnight frost.

The temperature stayed at about 3 degrees during the day compared with an average 10-11C at this time of year.

East Sussex County Council gritters ensured major roads were made safe.
Although Sussex Police reported 105 snow-rated calls, none were as a result of serious accidents or incidents on the roads.

A South East Ambulance spokeswoman said the call centre was, if anything, quieter than normal on a Spring Sunday.

She said: 'The bad weather stopped people going out so there were fewer incidents than normal.'

Although narrow lanes had to be negotiated with care, major roads stayed open with the exception of the A259 near Beachy Head.
Rail services continued uninterrupted all day.

A Southern Trains spokesman said travel was trouble-free on Sunday, largely because temperatures were relatively high.

But he said they had plunged overnight causing problems on the East Coast line near Bexhill.

Lines from Uckfield and via Etchingham and Stonegate were uninterrupted.

Forecasters say more snow could hit the area later today.

The snow brought out toboggans which had remained unused for years.

Half-term coincided with the snowfalls which enabled children to build snowmen, slide down slopes, get out their skis and have snowball fights.
