It offers an illustrated presentation by Timothy Ravalde with the Chichester Cathedral lay vicars.

Funtington Music Group chairman David Tinsley said: “If you have been thrilled by the Chichester Cathedral Choir, do not miss this special event when the six lay vicars of Chichester Cathedral – two altos, two tenors and two basses – sing a magical repertoire of unaccompanied music under the direction of cathedral assistant organist Timothy Ravalde.

“Timothy will tell the story of the development of a capella singing, tracing the evolution of the genre from early plainsong to modern polyphony with music spanning nearly two thousand years. Next Wednesday evening’s programme in the University Chapel will feature the music of Byrd, Palestrina and Lassus, among others. The centrepiece will be The Lamentations of Jeremiah, set in five parts by Thomas Tallis.

Tickets are £15 at the door or may be pre-ordered on 01243 378900. For more information about FMG and its monthly events, please visit our website www.funtingtonmusicgroup.org.uk.”
