Amy’s festive songs on home turf

Former Bishop Luffa pupil Amy Fuller heads home this Christmas for her first Chichester concerts in several years.

Currently studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, Amy is bringing fellow Royal College student Fran Gregory with her for two special charity concerts in aid of The Joshua Foundation, a charity that supports children with terminal illnesses.

Promising beautiful opera-inspired versions of a wide range of Christmas songs and carols, the girls will perform A Classic Christmas at Eastergate Church on December 20 and at St Paul’s Church, Chichester, on December 21.

With several awards and critically-acclaimed performances already to their credit (The Royal Albert Hall, Chichester Festival Theatre, Chichester Festivities and Birmingham’s Symphony Hall), Amy and Fran are currently rehearsing with Jane Samuel, who regularly accompanies stars including Katherine Jenkins and Bryn Terfel.

Amy Fuller said: “I am thrilled to be performing on home turf, and singing with Fran at these special concerts will be wonderful. We have been working together all year and the opportunity to showcase our Christmas repertoire is really exciting.”

Amy, currently in her third year of four at the college, first came to attention in the area singing with fellow Bishop Luffa sixth-former Jennie Witton. Still firm friends, the two have since diverged musically - and Amy is delighted to now be working as a duo with Fran.

“I love exploring ways of putting contemporary music in a classical context, and it is good to be on stage with someone to share that experience together. It can be a bit lonely on your own! But it is good to explore it together.”

Among the numbers which will be given a classical feel will be All I Want For Christmas Is You, alongside traditional pieces including Silent Night.

“We are also singing locally at some private parties and functions, but we do still have a few dates available if anyone would like to book us.”

The duo will be accompanied by David Harrington, who has created the arrangements.

Amy and Fran joke that although they might be Christmas belles in Chichester; in February they are set to be vile for Valentine’s, as they will play the two witches in an Opera’r Ddraig production of Dido And Aeneas.
