An exquisite evening of classical music

Featuring a broad range of masterpieces from Chopin to John Ireland, the black tie event will be held at Champs Hill in Coldwaltham to raise funds for the Wildbrooks Churches.

“The objective of the evening is to make a significant contribution to the short-term needs of the four Wildbrooks Churches: St Michael’s in Amberley, St Peter’s in Parham, Greatham and Wiggonholt - estimated to be as much as £100,000,” said Michael.

The Amberley resident began playing piano as a child and won a scholarship to study under famous Swiss pianist, Pierre Souverain, before making his debut at London West End’s Wigmore Hall in 1971.

Now performing concerts in aid of charitable causes for almost 20 years, Mr Boxford’s next big event is something close to his heart.

“If you live in a village, where the church plays such an important part in its history and represents its heritage, then it’s important we keep these churches maintained and in good shape for the next generation.”

Starting with a Champagne reception and canapes, the exciting programme will include romantic pieces by Rachmaninoff and the G minor Ballade No1 by Chopin.

Mr Boxford will also be playing John Ireland’s ‘Amberley Wildbrooks’, composed in 1921. Ireland, who loved the brooks, spent his final years living in a converted windmill in nearby Washington.

“John fell in love with the Wildbrooks”, said Michael. “He was very taken by places that he went to and this is a wonderful piece, which is a portrait of the energy and excitement of the Brooks, the wildlife and the babbling streams - there couldn’t be anything more appropriate.”

The main event will be followed by a bountiful buffet supper.

Rev Alison Pattenden, of the United Benefice of the Wildbrooks Churches, said: “I am glad to be able to say that this Musical Evening promises to make a significant contribution to this overall fund-raising target.

“So I want to thank the Concert Committee and the Organisers for their enthusiasm and hard work.”

With tickets priced at £50, and support from patrons and donations, the concert is set to raise an appreciable amount towards its target.

The evening takes place on November 23, at 6.30pm, in Champs Hill Music Room, Coldwaltham.
