Where music and art collide - a unique arts event in Lewes
and on Freeview 262 or Freely 565
Painter Susie Monnington and composer Howard Moody collaborate to present new paintings alongside a live premiere of chamber music, inspired by their time together wandering the beaches of the Outer Hebrides.
Susie has spent a year in her studio developing a new collection of evocative abstract paintings titled A Thin Place, which will be launched in September as part of Artwave. Susie strives in her work to create a sense of otherness, a feeling of being neither here nor there, a detached space in-between, that the Celts call a thin place where heaven and earth collide.

Hide AdHoward’s new composition Variations on Luskentyrereflects Susie’s paintings. Based on an original melody that haunted his inner ear whilst walking the Hebridean shores, this unique performance involves sixtop professional musicians. The Variations will be recorded live at the event and then played at the subsequent Artwave exhibition that runs until September 22nd, creating an installation that brings the two art forms together.
Anna Cooper - violin, Nick Cooper - cello, Annette Isserlis - viola, George Sleightholme - clarinet, Piers Adams - recorder, Howard Moody - keyboard
The paintings and performance will come together in the intimacy of their beautiful home, architecturally inspired by Scotland and the Scottish influenced Arts and Crafts movement.
The exhibition will continue for Artwave weekends where the recording will be played as part of the exhibition.
