Worthing's East Beach artists offer autumn delights

East Beach Gallery, Beach Parade, Worthing is home to an autumn exhibition throughout September with new artists’ work appearing in October.

Taking part are artists including Russ Iden, Beth Doll, Ines Pengilly, Phil Hayes, Carole Walker, Alison Crowe, Jane Pinder and Pinkie Jones.

The artists are mostly Worthing-based with their work frequently reflecting the surrounding architecture and landscapes. Many of the artists work from the East Beach Studios in the artists’ quarter between Coast Café and Splashpoint on the promenade.

The exhibition has a range of paintings, drawings, sculpture, jewellery etc.

The featured artist for September is Russ Iden who has created a collection of detailed, painted tributes to some of his favourite works of art by artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Beryl Cook, Tamara de Lempicka, Frida Kahlo and L S Lowry.

Russ has worked for more than 30 years as a commercial artist and more recently in education.

He trained at Epsom School of Art

Russ says he is influenced by the post-impressionists, especially Vincent van Gogh and his life story.

Russ also specialises in creating murals and has recently completed an eight-metre wide mural featuring characters from children’s literature.

Russ said: “As well as my studio artwork I am also working as an art technician and cover teacher.

“I have previous experience as acting head of art and photography at an OFSTED outstanding rated academy teaching KS3, 4 and 5.

“I also tutor art students of all ages and abilities.

“Students I have taught have gone on to achieve scholarships in art and A* results in their Art GCSE.”
