Author Peter James visits Worthing

WHEN Sussex author Peter James visited Worthing recently to sign copies of his latest book Dead Man's Footsteps, there was a huge queue of local people waiting for him.

The book is the fourth in the Roy Grace series, set in the buzzing city of Brighton, and looks certain to be another best-seller.

Born in Brighton, the author's meticulous field research with the police is greatly appreciated by his growing audience, along with the local settings.

His Worthing fans were reassured by the news that there is a fifth book in the series already in the making.

"I am half-way through another book," he said. "Brighton is a crime writer's paradise," he said.

He spends an average of one day a fortnight with Sussex CID, either out on patrol, attending crime scenes or in their offices.

He is regularly present at autopsies at the Brighton and Hove mortuary and his studies of the criminal mind include observing inmates at Broadmoor and at Lewes prison in Sussex, as well as attending homicide conferences in the UK.

He works closely with a former Detective Chief Superintendent of Sussex CID to ensure the accuracy of his plots and research.
