Ben's ready to party - Blues Brother style

PERFORMERS don't come much more enthusiastic than Ben Watson, who is at Brighton's Theatre Royal for the Blues Brothers Party.

"I am loving it! I am loving it! I am just loving it!" he says. "We are singing rhythm and blues songs and soul songs every night. It's a tough job but someone has got to do it!

"It has been an ambition of mine to be in the Blues Brothers since school when I dragged my friends up on the school stage in assembly and would get them to do Everybody Needs Somebody.

"I had seen the Blues Brothers film and I just loved the music. There is just something about the music that is universally loved, that everybody can connect to. The music is very upbeat and uplifting. And there is a good comic blend to it in this show."

It's a show, as Watson says, which does what it says on the tin: "It's a great big two-hour party and everyone is invited '“ a non-stop party. I am very lucky. I am partying every night!"

So just how does he cope with that? "I am very aware that I am doing it for six weeks. You've just got to go out and enjoy every show. And the audience are just fantastic. They are totally up for it. It gets you going. It's a symbiotic relationship. If you are ever flagging the audience just picks you up!"

The Blues Brothers Party is the further adventures of Jake and Elwood whom we first met in 1980 when they burst onto the world's cinema screens in a movie that has now become one of the most important rock 'n' roll films of all time.
