Bexhill Down Afternoon Townswomen's Guild

CHAIRMAN Mrs Angela Sheppard welcomed members and visitors to the first guild meeting of 2009 and their first meeting at St Augustine's Church Hall.

By way of slides and commentary, we were taken from our winter to the sunshine of South Africa and along the Garden Route, which is a delightful area of the Cape with golden beaches, mountains, Dutch Cape houses, wineries, fruit and flowers.

With the subject of 'families', Reading For Pleasure started the New Year and produced readings on a variety of families, from the extended family of Queen Victoria and her relations, to the families of Julie Walters and Eric Sykes, from their biographies.

Naomi and her daughter-in-law from the Old Testament and imaginary families from the pens of poets were also included, as well as information on elephants, who were always led by the matriarch who is the oldest and wisest in the family.

The guild will meet at St Augustine's Hall at 2pm on Wednesday, February 11, and will welcome visitors and new members. Please ring 218756 for further information.
