Bexhill Festival of Music starts with No 48 gigs

Now in its tenth year of celebrating local music, June's Bexhill Festival of Music will kick off this weekend at No 48 on Devonshire Road with two days of free music.

On Saturday and Sunday there will be open mic sessions between midday and 2pm for anyone to showcase their talents, and for others to listen to and enjoy.

On Saturday all the performers come from Bexhill; there will be folk and soul from two of Bexhill finest young talented singer songwriters. Katie Wren is 15 years old but has won numerous awards; she covers the likes of Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift and performs original pieces. Mollie Tucker has appeared on many stages; she will be singing her own folk and soul as well as covers such as Jolene. The Exiles are a seven piece group with a host of instruments producing some foot-stomping folk and steamy blues. The Finni are father and son Nigel and Jack, who take inspiration from Paul Weller and Bob Dylan, while Nelson King is a blues and rock guitarist. Harry’s Brother is an acoustic pop and soul duo covering hits from the 1960’s to now. Closing the show on Saturday is The Geoff Bellhouse Band, which combined has centuries of experience playing classic rock ‘n’ roll.

On Sunday afternoon there will be a combination of pop and soul through the afternoon with various acts including Bexhillians Ritchie V, Charly House, and Acoustica. Later on there will be a Beatles tribute from Chris Field, with his Mono Beatle show. Irish singer/guitarist Owen Donovan will bring this opening festival to a close as he covers the likes of John Denver and Rod Stewart as well as a host of Irish classic pop and folk songs. Owner Andy Rimmer said: “We would like to thank Tony Mansi and his team of volunteers for steering this festival over the previous 10 years. ” Any donations will go towards next years Bexhill Festival of Music.
