Bexhill Horticultural Society

SO popular are the holidays and outings organised by Stuart Wood for Bexhill Horticultural Society that a survey of members last year has resulted in an additional five-day break this year.

The outings and holiday organiser has been combining this role with that of vice president since the recent annual meeting.

This is the society's 80th anniversary year and a special Dutch bulb fields cruise this Spring was swiftly fully booked.

As a result of the survey, society members are being offered an additional five-day break in August, taking in many of the requests submitted for places to visit.

The programme of visits will take in Barnsdale Gardens in Rutland; Harlow Carr Royal Horticultural Society garden at Harrogate; an overnight stop in Harrogate and a lunch visit to Betty's Cafe Tea Rooms and shop then via the Lake District and Carlisle and over the border to Scotland.

Members will visit the former Royal Yacht Britannia, the special 60th year showing of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, the Millennium Link Falkirk Wheel plus time in Edinburgh and Stirling for sight-seeing and, on the return journey, a visit to Tatton Park.

Stuart Wood says: "If anyone wishes to join us they are welcome to join the society."

Other trips planned for 2009 include:

* Monday, March 16 - Highdown Chalk Pit Garden
