Bexhill Horticultural Society

The society held its annual meeting at St Martha's Hall, Little Common on Saturday, January 12.

The meeting was attended by over a 100 members and attracted seven new members and they all enjoyed some refreshment before the proceedings began.

Our chairman Margaret Tate presented her report and thanked the committee for their work over the past year.

She spoke about the outings, meetings and shows during the past year and thanked the outings organiser Stuart Wood for his hard work during the year.

Margaret also thanked the members for their support at the organised events, and we look forward to another successful year.

Treasurer Eileen Randell reported that although the funds were healthy expenses are greater than income, so regrettably some entrance fees would have to rise along with the cost of refreshments. However, the annual membership fee would remain at 2.50 for 2008.

President Nick Hollingsworth was re-elected for another year in office along with our vice presidents, Mr H Lawrence and Mrs M Van-Dratt. Nick thanked all in the society who worked hard behind the scenes on the organising and refreshment. He also said that without the members there would be no society and that he is proud to be president of the society.

All officers and committee were re-elected. Members then enjoyed an informative presentation by Norman Franks of the Sussex Air Ambulance, which is our chosen charity for 2008.

If you are interested in joining the society telephone our membership secretary Robin Reilly on 210770.

You are welcome to come along to our next Winter Meeting at St Martha's Church Hall, Cooden Sea Road, Little Common and listen to Clive Richardson giving an illustrated talk on Romney Marsh and its Ancient Churches and also meet other members.
