Bexhill Organists and Choirmasters Association

CHURCH organists from Hastings and Bexhill visited St. Andrew's Church, Bexhill on January 8 for a recital by the resident organist, Paul Abnett.

This was arranged at short notice to replace the advertised meeting.

The organ is a small Spuden-Rutt instrument, built about 1920 and, although it has limitations, it produces a fine sound of exceptional clarity, well suited to this medium-sized church.

The recital began with four works by J.S. Bach, including the great Toccata and Fugue in D minor, one of the finest works ever written for the organ. Buxtehude's Prelude and Fugue in D followed - a work which had given inspiration to Bach.

The recital concluded with three favourite voluntaries by Lefebure-Wely, DuBois and Vidor.

The next meeting is at Clive Vale United Reformed Church, Hastings, on February 12 at 6.45pm. A buffet supper will be followed by hymn singing with guitar music and society members will be invited to extemporise in organ accompaniment.
