Cathal joined BCS as their new musical director in March following the retirement of the choir’s founder, George Jones.

Choir spokesman Keith Paul said: “The programme starts with Vivaldi’s Gloria, one of the most popular of all choral orchestral works. It regularly features in Classic FM’s Hall of Fame and is an amazing contrast of choral singing, solos, and duets. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto number 3 will be performed by the Sinfonia of Arun, which has been accompanying BCS concerts for several years.

“The concert finishes with Haydn’s Paukenmesse, The Mass in the Time of War, described by Eric Bromberger in the programme notes as ‘sharply mixed music – light and dark, festive and troubled – and that duality is the source of its considerable expressive power.”

David Eckford, chairman of BCS, said: “Members of the choir have been working very hard during their rehearsals this term to ensure they give an exciting and memorable performance of these popular works. We are very pleased to welcome Sophie Pullen (soprano), Annie Gill Mulroy (mezzo-soprano), Paul Austin Kelly (tenor) and Colin Campbell (baritone).

Tickets will be available on the door or in advance by calling 01403 785648.
