Bobby plays tribute to his great hero Liberace

A RECENT TV trawl through half a century of talent shows revived images of an 18-year-old Bobby Crush on Opportunity Knocks.

"There I was in a frilly shirt and a velvet jacket, and my style was a complete steal from Liberace," Crush recalls.

"When I was growing up playing the piano in the early '60s, there were two people that were an influence for me.

"One of them was Russ Conway. I used to study all his records at great length, and a bit of his style has certainly rubbed off.

"But in terms of showmanship and presentation, Liberace was my great hero."

It is a hero he remembers fondly in Liberace '“ Live From Las Vegas, a show that he brings to Brighton's Theatre Royal on Friday, February 1 at 7.45pm (tickets on 08700 606 650).
