Celebration of industrial history

The Spring Arts and Heritage Centre in Havant will be holding an Industry Day on October 29 celebrating the local industrial history of the borough – gloves, parchment, Scalextric, corsets and Kenward.

The venue received a £50,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to finance a three-year project to develop an interactive timeline of the Havant Borough, a touchscreen kiosk, school projects and several smaller strands of work.

Spokeswoman Kate Saunders said: “Research for the timeline is well underway with help from some local graduates who have spent the summer working on research for the timeline in the research room.

“We have now moved into the project phase having made contact with a local school and several artists. We are planning to have several interactive activities on the timeline for children especially featuring Warblington Castle, The Victorian Work House and the Hayling Island Billy Line. We are planning to have our Timeline unveiling at the end of February 2012.”
