Celebration of Christmas

A grand celebration of Christmas words and music will take place at St Mary’s House, Bramber on Saturday, December 10.

The ancient house will be decorated with holly garlands, the traditional illuminated Christmas tree and a blazing log fire for a joyous, reflective, festive programme of songs and seasonal readings, promised administrator Alan Durden.

“The star line-up is headed by TV actress Susan Jameson, and author Simon Brett. Best known for the TV dramas When the Boat Comes In and Take Three Girls, Susan Jameson regularly appears in the popular BBC1 series, New Tricks.

“Simon Brett is one of our top writers of crime fiction, having written over 70 books, and was author of the comedy series, After Henry.

“The seasonal readings, chosen from Peter Thorogood’s archive of poetry and prose, are interspersed with music and carols by soprano Jacquelyn Fugelle and tenor Neil Jenkins.

“Jacquelyn, who made her début at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, has sung opera all over the world, and Neil Jenkins has sung with all of Britain’s opera companies, especially Kent Opera, Scottish Opera, Welsh National Opera and Glyndebourne Festival Opera.

“The pianist is Terence Allbright, who is in much demand as an accompanist; he has composed some 50 musical scores for BBC Radio dramas and performed his more recent compositions in the Brighton Festival.”
