CFT defies recession with bumper line-up

FELICITY Kendal, Simon Williams and Diana Rigg will be among the stars opening the 2009 summer season at Chichester Festival Theatre.

A confident CFT has unveiled the four shows that will launch an extended summer of theatre in the city.

While the rest of the world plunges deeper into recession, the Festival Theatre is still bullish after a spectacularly successful 2008 season.

Its response is to make the 2009 season six weeks longer '“ and to announce the opening shows a month earlier than usual. It expects to confirm the rest of the season in mid-February.

Artistic director Jonathan Church is determined the theatre will be the good news story of 2009 '“ just as it was for 2008.
