Chance to enjoy Little Night Music

Guildford-based theatre company PH Productions reprise their 2010 sell-out production of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s award-winning A Little Night Music at Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre from Tuesday, August 30 to Saturday, September 3.

Previously staged in the Mill Studio, this production has been extensively reworked for the Main Stage. Featuring a 23-piece orchestra on the stage and songs such as Send In The Clowns, A Weekend In The Country and Every Day A Little Death, the show offers Guildford audiences a rare opportunity to see one of Sondheim’s most amusing and sophisticated works.

Inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s film, Smiles Of A Summer Night, the action takes place in a weekend country house in turn-of-the-century Sweden. The party consists of middle-aged lawyer Fredrik Egerman, his teenage trophy wife Anne, his son Henrik, the intriguing and beautiful actress Desirée Armfeldt, her mother Mme Armfeldt, the ferociously-jealous Count Carl-Magnus and his long-suffering wife Charlotte.

As the weekend progresses, deceit is gradually uncovered as surprising liaisons emerge, long-simmering passions surface, and a taste of love’s endless possibilities revealed.

Directed by Victoria Jukes, with musical direction by Alex Parker, this production features young musicians from the Royal Academy of Music.
