Spokeswoman Jill Hoskins said: “Young people aged from eight to 14 from the Kate Jones Dance Company will present their own brand of Dance Theatre in this wonderful venue.

“Kate Jones Dance supports young people in creating and choreographing their own contemporary dance pieces with the support of a professional choreographer. Three separate groups of young people from five different schools (primary and secondary) will perform. The performance promises to be something very special, with the dancers using all parts of the chapel to move in and around while the beautiful music of the likes of Ezio Bosso, Max Richter and Loscil fills the chapel.

“We meet up once a week to develop dance work based around one theme. Over the months a piece begins to emerge full of the children’s ideas and their movement vocabulary. We worked with the framework of a cube last year in the studio and on Clymping beach. It is important for us we use our environment whether that be natural or architectural to develop our understanding of dance and how it relates to the perceived real
world.

“Originally we had seen the framework in situ but things began to change, and soon bird imagery began to be part of the movement. Before long Alcyone arrived and we began to work with the Greek Myth of Alcyone and Ceyx as recorded by Ovid. The framework became a transient place of safety, somewhere to shelter for a brief moment. So here is our piece!”

The afternoon will begin at 2pm with Pimms and strawberries, with the performance starting at 2.30pm. Tickets £9; seniors £5; students £5; children £4. Box office: 01243 813595. In person: Cloisters Shop, Cathedral Cloisters, Chichester, PO19 1PX (open Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm).
