Contrasting concerts from Donovan with charity in mind

Donovan Brown is offering two concerts in Worthing.

Donovan (Organ, Piano, Keyboard) will be joined by Ashley Barrington (Soprano) at 3pm on Saturday, February 6 at All Saints Church, Findon Valley (retiring collection for Parkinsons UK) and then at 12.30pm on Tuesday, February 9, Donovan will be at Christ Church, Grafton Road, Worthing, again with Ashley.

“Christ Church arguably has one of the best organs in town, so I’m planning on showing its full range of sounds. Although the two concerts are similar in programme, they differ because of the two organs which are quite different, and also at the one in Worthing on 9th, I will be joined by Miles Young – a brilliant pianist, who will lighten the mood with such pieces as Forgotten Dreams, and the Shadow of your smile.

“I have been part of the music scene at Worthing for the last 46 years, having played for the Worthing Philharmonic Choir from 1970 to 1996, and then its Choral Director until I ‘retired’ in 2010. Since then I have worked with Aedan Kerney with the Worthing Choral Society, Boundstone Chorus, and recently with the West Sussex WI Choir that Aiden looks after.

At both concerts I will be joined by Ashley Barrington, recently returned to England from the Pyrenees.

“I’m very keen we have good audiences. I want to raise as much money or Parkinson’s as possible – there will not be any deduction or expenses – none of the performers are taking a fee, and all other costs will be met by me. The proceeds will be split 50/50 between Parkinson’s UK Research programme, and the local Worthing Branch for Parkinson’s sufferers. Rod Herod will be giving a brief talk on Parkinson’s and showing a short video entitled What is Parkinson’s.”
