Dandelions

MEADOW, pasture and wayside lawn,Dandelions greet the dawn.

Golden yellow, sunburst flower

Bright upon their double bracts

Turning back to clasp the stem

Until a fluffy ball of white

With seed a downy parachute

Ripe to catch the passing breeze

Drifts across the sun-warm earth

Birthing dormant seed next year-

Gardener's weed, invading seed,

Lazy-hazy country-wine,

Childhood clocks to count the time:

Careless footsteps crush you dead

But

Golden florets, gild the landscape-

Innovating, multilying

Dandelion summer-gold

Spreads and spreads

And

Spreads!
