Diva dealing with disaster

The Diva In Me, which enjoyed great acclaim at the last Brighton Festival, now heads for Worthing’s Connaught Theatre (Saturday, April 9, 2.30pm and 7.30pm).

The Diva In Me is the story of Philippa, a girl who has the x-factor but was born in the wrong place, at the wrong time. She grows up, falls in love, gets married, has a baby, does all the ordinary things but knows in her heart she’s really a diva. But when her husband leaves her and her best friend dies suddenly, her x-factor becomes the ex-factor.

Combining songs, humour and emotional punches, The Diva In Me is a new play with music by award-winning playwright Charlotte Jones whose credits include Martha, Josie And The Chinese Elvis, In Flame, Humble Boy and the book for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical The Woman In White. She is currently working on What To Do When Someone Dies starring Anna Friel.

The one-woman-play includes live music and a host of songs from divas of the past and present all performed by Philippa Stanton (How I Learned To Drive at the Donmar Warehouse and Nicholas Nickleby at Chichester Festival Theatre) with inspiration from Judy Garland, Eartha Kitt, Susan Boyle, Amy Winehouse and more.
