Downton Abbey butler spins cricketing yarns at Arundel Castle Cricket Club
DOWNTON Abbey butler Carson was the guest, rather than the servant, at an Arundel Castle Cricket Club lunch.
Actor Jim Carter, one of the stars of ITV’s smash-hit drama, and his wife, actress Imelda Staunton, were guests of honour at the lunch, held in the club’s pavilion.
A great fan of cricket, Jim is chairman of Hampstead Cricket Club and, in an entertaining speech, recalled both his early days in showbusiness as well as playing cricket in his boyhood in Yorkshire, together with some backstage stories from the making of Downton Abbey.
As well as welcoming touring international teams to play on its ground next to the castle, the club has hosted a number of celebrity teams over the years.
