It comprises an eclectic mix of work from over 30 local artists in a range of practices from paintings to line drawings to photography, ceramics and sculpture.

It is a considered but busy show – lots of work crammed into a relatively small space. However there is balance and flow to the pieces and the viewer is guided through to explore the twists and turns of artwork on display.

Director Joe Nguyen said: “It’s been a real challenge trying to tie in all the disparate stands of artistic creativity into one show but we hope we have achieved that with this Open. We were surprised at the level of submissions; the variety of practices and the degree of skills. We created the show originally as a promise to our Starlings members in the shop at the front on Sackville Rd, but when we opened the door to the general public we were amazed at who came through.”

Starlings members are offering all their original artworks for sale for the first time in the gallery – artists such as Vera Douglas, James Heighway, Penny Hobson, Margaret Turton, Rob Clarke, Marie-Eve Etcheverry and Sarah Jane Welch.

The gallery is tucked between two garages at 17a Parkhurst Rd. The exhibition runs until January 3, open Tuesdays-Sundays, 10.30am -4.30pm. For info email [email protected] or visit www.murmurationsgallery.co.uk
