Enter stage left: £1.8m centre to be proud of

IT'S New Year, new era as Chichester Festival Theatre unveils its £1.8m education and rehearsal building '“ a facility that makes it the envy of venues across the country.

Where once stood the tatty, run-down former Gunters restaurant now stands a purpose-built centre that will transform the rehearsal and education opportunities at the CFT.

Chichester Festival Youth Theatre put the centre to good use in the autumn, preparing their production of A Christmas Carol there. And last Friday '“ January 9 '“ it was officially opened as the Steven Pimlott Education and Rehearsal Building, named in honour of the former CFT artistic director who died of cancer two years ago at the age of 53.

Festival Theatre artistic director Jonathan Church is delighted at the opportunities the new building will bring.
