Local people looking to get more active this New Year can now join a new gardening project at the Hastings Centre run by TCV The Conservation Volunteers. The Conquest Green Gym was at the hospital last year but has crossed the road for the winter months.

Carrie Edmonds of TCV said, “This is such a lovely spot and we’re really excited to get our hands dirty and get involved with growing vegetables and looking after the nature hedges.”

TCV’s Green Gyms are half day sessions of light-to-moderate outdoor volunteering designed to help boost health with regular exercise, fresh air and company. Their special appeal is that people improve their fitness whilst improving their environment.

“Last year, we made huge progress on the lake at the Conquest, but it is too cold to be in the water now so gardening will be a perfect winter activity. Tasks can be as gentle as you like which means everyone can take part at their own pace.”
