Film festival closing movie

Hope Springs (12A) is the film featured in the closing gala at this year’s 21st Chichester International Film Festival at the Chichester Cinema at New Park.

Festival artistic director Roger Gibson said: “We are proud to close this year’s festival with a very special preview comedy courtesy of Momentum before its countrywide release two weeks later starring Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones.”

Many years of marriage have left Maeve (Meryl Streep) wanting to spice things up and reconnect with her husband. When she hears of a famed couples specialist (Steve Carell) in the town of Great Hope Springs, she must persuade her sceptical husband (Tommy Lee Jones), a steadfast man of routine, to get on a plane for an intense week of marriage and sex therapy.

Roger said: “Just convincing the stubborn Arnold to go on the retreat is hard enough. The real challenge for both of them comes as they shed their hang-ups and try to re-ignite the spark that caused them to fall for each other in the first place, and that is when the real adventure begins. The film combines humour with a serious theme, and as you would expect, the chemistry between Streep and Tommy Lee Jones is electric.”

The closing gala is on Sunday, September 2 a6 18.30 (£25 including meal). More details at www.chichestercinema.org.
