The Star Wars series has developed such a global iconic reputation it's hard to imagine anyone has failed to see at least one of the movies.

But our teenagers had remained immune to everything Star Wars until the latest instalment - The Force Awakens - was released.

It wasn’t the movie itself which finally seduced them as fans. It was the fact that Cineworld’s revolutionary new theatre at Crawley was showing it in 4DX.

4DX was launched at Crawley in November - a ground-breaking cinematic experience which plunges you right into the heart of the action.

Not only does the giant screen deliver 3D perfection and amazing synchronised sound but the seats move in time to the roll of the camera while scents, water droplets and mists create the impression you are part of the movie itself.

It gets no more real than this.

And 4DX is at its best in high action sequences for which the Star Wars franchise is famed.

With special effects galore, The Force Awakens was almost a showcase film for a cinematic experience of this realism and quality.

At the end of the film, our teenager Star Wars newbies may not have been convinced that these space films are the best thing ever.

But they were sold on 4DX.

Cinema has never been so realistic or so much fun. This is the future.
