The trio, comprising Elaine Edwards (saxes and flute), Ken Edwards (bass guitar and vocals) and Jamie Harris (percussion and vocals), play a powerful mix of avant-jazz, rock and Afro-Cuban and Middle Eastern sounds.

Elaine and Ken are founder members of another popular local band, The Moors, and Jamie recorded and toured with jazz improviser Trevor Watts.

They play original compositions, as well as creative covers of music by Jimi Hendrix and Ornette Coleman.

The band takes their name from Afrit - a demon in Arabian mythology - and Nebula - a huge cloud of intergalactic gas.

They started gigging just a few months ago and have already performed in Hastings, St Leonards, Battle and London.

Tickets for the launch gig, which can be booked in advance from the Electric Palace website (http://www.electricpalacecinema.com) include a free CD copy of the four-track EP, which will also be available to download.

The venue is small, so advance booking is advisable.
