Glamorous charity ball raises big funds for Age UK

Champagne was in abundance at a glamorous charity ball where the ‘movers and shakers’ of Horsham raised big funds for Age UK.

Brainchild of Deborah Johnston, the Grand Charity Ball has been in the works for almost a year.

She said: “Age UK Horsham District are a wonderful charity who provide endless services for the elders of our area.

“We need more funds because a lot of people are getting older and it’s rather essential.”

Held at the South Lodge Hotel in Lower Beeding last Sunday, the event saw more than 120 people dressed to impress for a four course meal, raffle, auction and live entertainment by function band, Sound Investment.

Age UK Horsham trustee David Jessop explained that as the council was reducing grants, it is now in the people’s hands to raise awareness.

He said: “The charity is always in need of funds so Deborah decided we should organise this grand ball.”

Age UK director Philip Lansberry helped gather many of the businesses in attendance, including auctioneers Toovey’s.

Mr Lansberry said: “We’re here to get the movers and shakers of Horsham involved.”

The total raised is yet to be confirmed.
