Great chancefor poets

CHICHESTER area poets will have the chance to see their work in print through a competition being run by the Open Mic Poetry group.

Winners will see their poems published as part of the Chichester Festivities in June.

There will also be a chance to hear the best poems read by professional actors during the Festivities at the Poetry & Jazz Cafe.

Organisers of the open mic, Barry Smith and Joan Secombe, have been so impressed by the quality of the poetry brought along to the monthly sessions at the New Park that they want to showcase some of the most exciting pieces alongside work by top published poets in the Festivities.

Spkesman Barry Smith said: “Poems can be brought along to the next open mic session on Wednesday March 30 at 8pm or emailed direct to chipoetry@yahoo.co.uk Poems must be original, unpublished work of no more than 50 lines on any subject and in any style.”

The best poems will be selected by Barry and Joan for publication in Poetry & All That Jazz magazine, available for sale at the Poetry & Jazz Cafe in Ede’s House, Chichester, on Wednesday, June 29.

The lead poet for the March 30 open mic session is David Swann, a lecturer from Chichester University, who will be reading from his latest collection, The Privilege of Rain.

Entrance £3 on the door (no tickets), Wednesday, March 30, 8pm, Studio, New Park Centre.
