A council spokeswoman said: “A series of creative workshops will be held which children will have the chance to make lanterns, hats, masks and decorations.

“The week also helps to boost visitor numbers to the town as families travel to join in from right across the south coast.

“In previous years the activities have drawn in people from Surrey and Hampshire.”

The first session will feature beastly bouncy bats, at Littlehampton Library, Maltravers Road, from 11am-noon on October 25, followed by cut-out lanterns, at the New Millennium Chamber, Manor House, Church Street, on October 26 (2-4pm), and bone trembling bits and bobs at the Dairy Community Centre, Church Street (10am-noon), the next day.

The Dairy will also host a mask-making workshop, from 2-4pm on Thursday, October 28, and the week ends with hat making at the Look & Sea Centre, from 10am-noon, on the Friday.

Dr James Walsh, chairman of the council’s tourism working group, said: “Our aim is to provide something for local families but we also continue to work very hard to encourage visitors from outside of the town”.
