ON Monday (February 16), Mary Alexander will give a lecture entitled 'Wigs, Waistcoats and Weepers - the role of the 18th Century artist, tailor and dressmaker as fashion and image consultant'.

Mary holds a BA in History and History of Art and an MA, with distinction, in History of Art from University College London.

With 30 years' experience as a lecturer in History of Art & Design, including public lectures in museum galleries and as a summer school tutor for the Open University, Mary lectures to various antiquarian societies and organisations, including Christie's Education in London since 1966.

She was also former Assistant Curator at Platt Hall, the Gallery of English Costume, Manchester.

Her publications and lectures explore the aesthetic, cultural and social history of dress and the relationship to art and design, using contemporary journals, correspondence and the visual arts.

This should be an interesting and informative lecture - not one to miss!

The day of special tnterest on Tuesday, February 24, is 'Conservation, Forgery and Taste' and can be booked at the above meeting.

The Society meets at the Arthur Easton Centre in the grounds of St Michael's Hospice, Upper Maze Hill, St Leonards-on-Sea on the third Monday in every month (not July and August) at 2.30pm. New members and visitors (4.50 per visit) are always very welcome.
