Hastings Senior Men's Forum

THE speaker on Tuesday (February 10) was one of our own members, Mr Paul Lenders, with the intriguing title 'It's good to talk'.

This soon became clear when he told of his 28 years working for what is now British Telecom.

He began by speaking of the inventor of the telephone, Graham Bell in 1876, and took us through a great deal of history, coming to his career as a technician in this industry.

We may not realise it, but the telephone has developed a greatly in his time, from the simple dial phones and telephone exchanges employing many people to today's 'high tech' organisation, and the era of the mobile phone.

Even the great Post Office Tower in London has undergone changes, and the well known red phone kiosk is today an 'endangered species'.

Altogether our afternoon was an opportunity to look back and forward, and was afforded much applause by an appreciative audience
