Hockey - Hill battle hard but miss chances

Hill started brightly but failed to cash in on their greater share of possession and paid the price just before half time when Brighton scored from a short corner.

A contentious penalty award early in the second half doubled Brighton’s lead but Hill rallied and broke at pace to pull one back as Johanna Lawless played in Lynne Simmons.

But despite some good pressure after that, Hill failed to find a away through and conceded a third goal before the end.

There was much better fortune for the 3rd team as they romped to a 7-1 win at Crowborough, scoring five in the second half after turning around 2-0 up.

Lucy Matthews, Tammy Falls, Becs Parker and Micky Daniel were all on target, while Chris Maclellan was faultless at the back.

Jodie Gower was strong on the right and whenever she was called upon, goalkeeper Avni Vadgama was always up to the challenge.

This week Hill travel to Horsham for their penultimate league match.

Mid Sussex Colts returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Horsham that hardly reflected their dominance.

The unfortunate Trigwell saw his penalty stroke turned on to the post by the Horsham keeper, who continued to frustrate Mids further with saves from Tyler, Lemay, Howell and Killick.

Mids thought they had broken through when Harris had an effort ruled out but the same player finally netted late in the game after break Shields, Trigwell, Hillier and Hagger took control of midfield.
