Hooe Open Group

THE group held its monthly meeting on Friday, October 8 at Hooe village hall when Edna Wallis welcomed all present, including two guests.

There was a good attendance to hear our invited speaker, Carol Holland, tell us about the duties of a county registrar and the fascinating range of marriages she has officiated at over the years.

Carol also told us about the history of marriages over the centuries. Today, marriages in England must be held in authorised premises, which may include register offices, premises such as stately homes, castles and hotels that have been approved by the local authority, churches or chapels of the Church of England or Wales, and other churches and religious premises registered by the registrar general for marriage.

The meeting ended with tea, lively conversation and a raffle. The bring-and-buy table is always a big attraction. If you are interested in joining the Open Group Ladies’ Club, contact Edna Wallis on 01424 842591, or just turn up on the second Friday of every month at 2.30pm.
