Horsham's Unitarian Church aims to help Nepal with Classical Folk concert

Celebrated singer Julie Roberts and pianist Michael Hinton are teaming up with talented Sussex group Classical Folk to present a concert that encompasses the best of the classical and popular repertoires.

The evening aims to raise funds for the charity Ashraya Nepal.

Classical Folk are already widely known for the high quality of their performances. Their violinist, Andrew Wickens, is a professional who only recently retired from the Philharmonia Orchestra. Colleagues Sylvia Akagi (voice and flute) and Peter Golden (guitar) are equally known, particularly as regular performers at Sussex folk clubs.

Julie Roberts and Michael Hinton were brought together last year while playing jazz with Ditchling-based bass player Herbie Flowers.

The concert starts at 7.30pm. The Unitarian Church venue is directly opposite Horsham’s bus station.

Admission is free, with a retiring collection on behalf of Ashraya Nepal. The charity focuses on funding education for Nepalese girls as the key to their self-advancement. Last April Nepal was hit by a devastating earthquake, which wrecked infrastructure, killed more than 8,000 people and injured a further 21,000.
