International Composers Festival starts tomorrow in Hastings

Musicians have been arriving in Hastings this week for the International Composers Festival, which showcases melodic music written by living composers. A series of concerts, devised by local resident Polo Piatti, will begin on Thursday at All Saints Church, Hastings, with an evening of Japanese music, including the one act opera “Otohime” by Nobuya Monta. This is to be followed by a grand opening concert in Saint Mary in the Castle, Hastings, on Friday Septmber 25.

The Festival then moves to the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill, for the whole of Saturday September 26, with a morning concert (10.30 am) followed by a talk by author and film-maker Phil Grabsky. In the afternoon, music-lovers can attend an open rehearsal before the evening concert at 7.30 pm, a Feast of Film Music, featuring well known works by some of the world’s most famous film and video-gaming music composers. A highlight will be composer Stephen Warbeck joining the orchestra for his theme music for “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin”.

Tickets can be bought at the door or online - for the two Hastings concerts at www.composersfestival.com and for the Bexhill events at www.dlwp.com
