Jesus Christ Superstar is super show

The 1970’s rock musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice was controversial when it made its debut, but today it still has enduring appeal and has lost none of its dark, angry, despairing emotion under the inspired direction of Bernard Simon & Sophia Lefevre.

The story is an account of the last seven days of the life of Jesus of Nazareth.

The atmospheric beginning with its simple set and effective lighting draws you into the story as soon as the curtain rises.

The principal characters without exception treat the audience to a polished and professional interpretation of this classic musical.

Kenny Giles plays the vocally demanding part of Jesus brilliantly. He gives a consistently compelling portrayal throughout the performance.

Kitson Wellard is a dynamic and powerful Judas Iscariot and Lesley Davis excels as Mary Magdalene with crystal clear diction, and does true justice to “I don’t know how to love him”.

Richard Lock is a sympathetic and believable Pontius Pilate with a beautiful rich baritone voice. Rick Baker as Herod, Julius Brady as Simon and Joshua King as Peter all give strong convincing performances.

The chorus is excellent throughout and produces some lovely harmonies, and

the enthusiastic dancers do full justice to Sophia Lefevre’s choreography

The Orchestra under the direction of Lorraine Barry brings alive the superb musical score.
