Little Common WI

A NEW year, a new beginning! So it seemed at the January meeting of Little Common WI, now held in the afternoon in place of the evening.

President Pauline Rosner welcomed everyone including many visitors and new friends. With secretary Wendy Milne, Pauline gave information of future events one being a local lunch outing in February, dates of various interests were listed such as crafts, Scrabble and music appreciation, also headquarters in Hailsham have organised different meetings throughout the county.

Guest speaker Heather Hyperiet began by showing her display of exquisite sugar craft before showing the art of sugar icing which can be used for cake decoration, flower arrangements and even ornamental figurines - Heather gave an interesting talk on the history of baking cakes going all the way back to 700 BC.

In fact, the Egyptians were first to decorate cake with the procedure changing to the present day. With much dexterity and many useful tips, Heather produced a lovely iced cake which she kindly placed in the raffle. Tonia Turner gave the vote of thanks.

Pauline celebrated her birthday by offering cake to everyone with their coffee made by herself.

Carolyn Cordwell won the competition with her most attractive teaspoon.

The meeting closed with special reminders of our 50th birthday meeting in March which will be held in the evening.

Why not come and join us on February 20 at 2pm which promises to be a most enjoyable meeting, with guest speaker Clive Richardson giving a talk entitled 'Cats and Twittens', in so doing you will have the opportunity of being at the birthday party!
