More than a hundred singers join forces in Burgess Hill to support charity

Music at The King’s Centre in Burgess Hill will be fit for royalty as more than a hundred of the best and brightest singers from all over Sussex come together for a worthy cause on Saturday, September 19.

Raising money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA), the Night of 100 Voices concert will feature a plethora of performers commemorating a remarkable man.

Rick Peckham, stepfather of television and radio presenter Zoe Ball, lost his fight to Motor Neurone Disease in 2012.

The event also celebrates a Burgess Hill businesswoman’s fundraising for worthy causes over the past 45 years.

Semi-professional soprano Susan Fleet, who runs her own PR and entertainment company, has arranged several charity concerts every year since 1970. Even as a teenager she used her church hall to stage musical evenings for charity.

She has gone on to form choral groups and arrange performances at many prestigious venues, including the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Cologne Cathedral and The Brighton Dome.

Her 40th anniversary concert, compéred by BBC newsreader Nicholas Owen at Chequer Mead in East Grinstead, saw 60 of her musical friends raise funds for the Bluebell Railway.

Susan has selected The King’s Centre in her home town to celebrate this latest milestone. Featuring a mixture of popular and classical music, the concert will see more than one hundred voices joining together in harmony.

The programme will include a medley of songs from Les Misérables and Oliver and other popular show tunes.

International opera artists Andrew Rees and Joanna Appleby will perform solo items alongside swing singer Duncan Allen and sisters Laura and Emily Loutit who will perform a song from the musical Once.

Conductor Richard Haslam is musical director and Tim Nail is accompanist.

A surprise celebrity compére will also feature.

With hopes of raising £10,000 for Motor Neurone Disease Association and tickets in high demand, audience members are encouraged to book tickets now to avoid disappointment.
