OPERA: In Tarring and Angmering churches

TARRING and Angmering are on the tour list in a new venture bringing opera to churches.

Terry Driscoll, who is based in Goring, has launched the series through Cantonata Music – an opera series which breaks new ground for him as well.

“I have been in the music industry for a long, long time, working with projects with everyone from Iron Maiden to the Minogue sisters. This is now a very different genre for me.

“We started with an Opera by the River concert this spring in Shoreham and, as a result of that, I was asked to pop along to St Margaret’s, Rottingdean.

“While I was there, I just thought that these buildings are a perfect marriage of acoustics and voices and architecture.

“I went trawling through all the churches in Sussex until I found five good venues with willing rectors.”

Terry is promising a wonderful evening of recitals by performers and soloists who have graced the world’s finest stages, including the English National and the Glyndebourne Festival.
