Proud to have been in commanding classic

IT was just one week's work: it was just one episode in a series that eventually ran to more than 80.

But ask pretty much anyone sensible enough to be besotted with Dad's Army what their favourite moment is and the chances are it will be the celebrated "Don't Tell Him Pike!" incident.

In the episode entitled The Deadly Attachment, originally broadcast 35 years ago, Capt Mainwaring and his platoon are guarding a surly German U-boat commander and his crew. Private Pike sings a rude song about Hitler so the surly commander wants to know his name, to write down for post-war reprisals.
