Rare sonata lined up for charity concert

Mr Brown spoke to the County Times from Salzberg in Austria, where he was playing for a violin course.

“I work with Igor Ozim the international violinist,” he explained. “He lives in Salzberg.”

Mr Brown, who has played with many orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic and the English Chamber, plays for all of Igor Ozim’s summer courses.

He came to be involved in The Chairman’s Trust through his former pupil Gaenor Circus, wife of charity founder Philip Circus.

“I’ve played a few concerts for Gaenor Circus at their house,” said Mr Brown. “They said that Philip was becoming chairman of the council in Horsham - they asked if I would give another concert for their fundraising efforts.”

The recital will include a rarely-heard sonata by William Hurlstone, first publicly performed in 2006 to mark the 100th anniversary of the composer’s death.

“Nobody will know it,” he said, “but it’s very easy to listen to, and quite exciting as well.”

The Chairman’s Trust will offer financial support in cases of hardship to those with nowhere else to turn.
